“Our supplier data is unreliable”

Why weak supplier control is a major audit and compliance risk

Supplier control is no longer “nice to have”.

It’s one of the first places auditors go when there’s a product issue.

Why? Because a site can look perfect… but a single weak supplier can undo everything.

This can be raised by:

· BRCGS / IFS audits (supplier approval, specs, risk assessment)

· Retailer audits (they may ask for vulnerability assessments / fraud controls)

· FSA inspections if product authenticity or safety is questioned

Example:

A supplier updates a spec (new oil, new processing aid, new allergen warning)

…but it’s sent as a PDF and sits unread in someone’s inbox.

Now your “approved” product spec is wrong - and your label might be wrong too.

Click-PLM helps by keeping supplier specs structured, current, and linked to finished products - with review cycles and alerts.
